EM stands for Effective Microorganisms. It was originally
developed as soil microbial inoculants in 1982 by Dr. Teruo Higa from Japan, based
on the concept that crops grow better through nurturing the soil without using
chemical fertilizers and pesticides. EM is a complex culture of selected beneficial
microorganisms, which include photosynthetic bacteria, lactic acid bacteria and
yeasts. When applied to soil or water, EM activates the existing good microorganisms.
It leads the majority neutral microorganisms to exert beneficial effects and harnesses
the bad microbes. Today, EM technology has a wide range of application, and has
been introduced to many countries to restore a healthy ecosystem through the power
of nature. | | |
